Madame CJ Walker revolutionized the hair care and cosmetics industry for African American women early in the 20th century.

Suzanne de Passe is the CEO of production company de Passe Entertainment; and the first African-American woman to be nominated for an Academy Award for screen writing.

- Sylvia Rhone became the first African-American woman to head a major record company in 1990, when she was appointed president/CEO of Atlantic division Eastwest Records and currently presides as president of Universal Music Group’s Motown Records and executive VP of Universal Records.
Television host, producer, and philanthropist, Oprah Winfrey is best known for her self-titled, multi-award winning talk show, which has become the highest-rated program of its kind in history. Oprah Winfrey was named one of the 100 Most Influential People of the 20th Century by Time magazine

is the wife of the forty-fourth President of the United States, Barack Obama, and is the first First Lady of the United States of African-American heritage.
